To the editor:

At the beginning of the Christmas season, Wal-mart in Middlesboro, Kentucky had two trees located at the entrance doors. A couple weeks ago, a district manager came into the store and demanded that those trees be taken down, along with the Christmas tree in the vision center.

After being advised that the trees were taken down because they offended the district manager, I called the 1-800-Walmart to find out more, I found out it is not a national policy, as identical trees to these are still located in other Wal-Mart stores. The service rep encouraged me to talk to the manager and to call them back after I spoke with the manager because it is their job to receive complaints and/or experiences that we want to report about ANY Wal-Mart.

When I went to the Middlesboro Wal-Mart to speak to the manager, I was told that the manager was not in, but that I could speak to the assistant manager. I spoke to her and expressed my concern. I was told that the district manager had demanded that these trees be taken down but that she saw nothing wrong with it. She said Wal-Mart was going to go to a low profile or sterile environment.

Our world is taking everything down that has the word Christ in it, even if it is a Christmas tree. I am offended that our local Wal-Mart has chosen to take that stand. Christmas is ALL about CHRIST. Without Him, there would be no reason for the season.

The Christmas tree is a reminder of God's gift to us, his Son Jesus Christ. There is room in this world for Christian beliefs; it is what our country was founded upon.

I also am offended by Walmart's district manager's choice to remove the Christmas trees from their foyer. It's Christmas, the trees have been up for several weeks. It's too bad the manager chooses not to love or to know Christ. I surely hope we all remember to pray for those who so desperately need Christ and maybe next year they also can know the true meaning of Christmas. Charlene
