Just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a threatening letter was discovered at H.Y. Livesay Middle School in Harrogate that led faculty and staff to use precautionary measures.
Principal Sandra Keck said that the students were escorted out of the building in a “quick and safe manner, and housed at Harrogate City Hall”.
Keck said that the children remained at City Hall until the end of the regular school day, and were sent home under normal procedures.
According to the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department, no one was harmed on Thursday and a criminal investigation is being conducted.
“We are being aided by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad,” Lt. John Collins told the Claiborne Progress. “The staff at H.Y. Livesay has done an excellent job to ensure the safety of the students, faculty and staff of the school.”
