PINEVILLE — Kentucky State Police (KSP) made a quick stop at a Pineville gas station earlier this week, but they weren’t there to fill up their tanks.

KSP Troopers from Post 10 in Harlan executed several search warrants at multiple businesses across Bell and Knox Counties in an effort to stop illegal gambling.

In Bell County, one or more machines were seized from the Exxon Friendly Mart. Six businesses in Knox County were involved. A total of 49 illegal gambling devices were seized, along with over $62,000 in cash.

Kentucky law states that “a person is guilty of promoting gambling in the first degree when he knowingly advances or profits from unlawful gambling activity by setting up and operating a gambling device.” Promoting gambling in the first degree is a “Class D” felony.

Charges are pending in these cases. All are under investigation by Detective Keith Saylor and Trooper Tyson Lawson.
