PINEVILLE — A Bell County Detention Center inmate is back in jail after escaping from a work-release program last week.

Randall Murray, 23, of Middlesboro ran away from a county road crew on Wednesday, Jan. 27 while laboring for the Bell County work-release program for prisoners.

According to Bell County Jailer Rex Miller, Murray was working on ditch lines in the Woodland Hills area of Pineville — on a crew overseen by Jason Gregory — when he decided to flee the scene on foot at around 1:30 p.m.

Murray was captured on Sunday, Jan. 31, and was taken back to the Bell County Detention Center.

Jeff Essary of the Middlesboro Police Department (MPD) was the arresting officer. Essary wasn’t available for comment.

According to public record, Murray was being held at the Bell County Detention Center on charges of alcohol intoxication in a public place and had been served three bench warrants.

He is now charged with second degree escape.
