MIDDLESBORO — Two Middlesboro residents got a strange surprise Friday night. Tony Hudson was just laying on his couch when he heard a loud crash.
“I jumped up,” said Hudson. He said he was so startled by the noise, he slipped and fell getting out of his house on 25th Street near Bingamtown Market.
The next thing he knew, there was a car parked underneath his house.
A Ford Focus traveling eastbound on 25th Street went off the road and crashed into the eastern portion of Hudson and Linda Rain’s home.
The wreck knocked cinder blocks out from under the house and hit the structural beams as well. Rains and Hudson said they lost heating and air on that side of the house. The car also knocked their mailbox down the hill.
Rains, who wasn’t home at the time of the crash, said most people wrecked on the other side of the road.
“I’m used to them going in the ditch over there, but not over here,” said Rains.
Hudson said it had only started snowing when the crash happened.
The reason for the accident?
“She just said she lost control of the car,” said Rains.
The driver of the vehicle wasn’t injured.
Rains said the driver’s insurance would cover the cost of the damage to their home and they hoped to get it repaired soon.
Middlesboro Police Department handled the wreck.
