PINEVILLE — A second Bell County Detention Center inmate was captured yesterday and placed in jail after escaping from a county work-release program last week.

Andrew W. York, 22, of Hulen, Kentucky, ran away from a county road crew on Wednesday, Jan. 27, while laboring for the Bell County work-release program for prisoners.

According to Bell County Jailer Rex Miller, York was working on ditch lines in the Woodland Hills area of Pineville — on a crew overseen by Jason Gregory — when he decided to flee the scene on foot at around 1:30 p.m.

York was arrested by Kentucky State Police (KSP) Trooper Keith Baker yesterday, and served a complaint warrant. He was immediately taken back to the Bell County Detention Center.

According to the public record, York was being held at the Bell County Detention Center after being served three bench warrants in November of 2009. He is now being charged with second degree escape.

Randall Murray, 23, of Middlesboro also fled the scene that day. Murray was later arrested by Jeff Essary of the Middlesboro Police Department (MPD), and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center. He was also charged with second degree escape.

An arrest is an accusation only. Individuals arrested are considered to be innocent, unless proven guilty in a court of law.
