A hike up Cumberland Mountain with a camera proved fruitful for area Forester Steve Roark on Sunday. Roark was able to photograph the mountain crystalized with ice. At right is a close-up photograph of a tree branch covered in “soft rime ice”.

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. — Snow is moving into Kentucky and a winter weather advisory is posted for much of the Bluegrass State.

The National Weather Service station in Jackson, Ky,. released information on Monday warning area residents that a powerful arctic front will “blast through the area” in the coming days.

The winter weather alert said that forecasters are predicting storm totals of between one and four inches of snow.

“By late Tuesday morning most locations should experience rain... Tuesday evening a powerful arctic front will blast through the area and quickly change all precipitation over to snow with winds of 30 to 35 MPH possible. Blowing snow along with rapidly dropping temperatures and wind chills below zero appear likely,” the advisory stated.
