Letter to the editor:

On January 29, 2010, Kentucky Utilities Company filed with the Kentucky Public Service Commission a request for an adjustment of its rates and charges to become effective on and after March 1, 2010. For residential eustomers, they are requesting a 13.54% increase which according to KU’s calculations should reflect an approximate $11.70 increase in our monthly bill.

I would encourage any Kentucky Utilities customers who oppose this increase to call the Public Service Commission (”PSC”) at 1-800-772-4636 and tell the PSC that you do not want this increase.

This Sunday, February 14, 2010, is Valentine’s Day. I would like to encourage all churches in our community area and any members of churches that read The Daily News to ask their respective church to join in a “heartfelt” prayer for our nation and for our community. With food and gasoline prices escalating seemingly at will, with unrestricted increases in cable and satellite bills, and with utility increases popping up everywhere, there needs to be a united prayer for Almighty intervention for help and deliverance for the people.

I know that some will argue that $12.00 is not a lot of money — but I remind you that $12.00 can mean the difference of whether a family eats or not at the end of the month or it can mean whether a person has enough money to get to work and keep his/her job.

Don’t forget — please call the PSC if you oppose the KU rate increase and let us as a community join in prayer on Valentine’s Day for our nation, for our community and for the people.
