Routine traffic stops often lead to drug-related arrests for MPD

MIDDLESBORO — The Middlesboro Police Department has made several major drug trafficking arrests in February after routine traffic stops, according to a press release.

MPD reports a seizure of 229 oxycodone pills, 95 hydrocodone, two vehicles, and over $10,000 in cash. Additional charges are pending.

The following arrests were the result of traffic stops by patrol officers:

On February 4, Douglas McFarland, 40, of Middlesboro, was arrested on two counts trafficking controlled substance, 1st degree.

On Feb. 5, Barbara L. Lewis, 50, of Tazewell, Tenn. was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance, 1st degree and 3rd degree.

On Feb. 6, Ronald Schmidt, 40, of Louisville, Ky. was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance, 1st degree.

On Feb. 12, Eva Perkins, 40, of Calvin, Ky. was arrested for trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st degree.

Officers involved in these cases include Joey Brigmon, Barry Cowan, Josh Burchett, Justin Barton, and Detective Joe Holder and Lieutenants David Buis and Tom Busic.

An arrest is an accusation only and those arrested are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
