MIDDLESBORO — Two Middlesboro residents were caught with a load of illegal items seized by law enforcement recently.

Billy J. Thomas, 62, and Theresa Thomas, 48, were both arrested on Thursday by the Middlesboro Police Department after police obtained a search warrant and found 18 hydrocodone pills, over five ounces of marijuana, three handguns, and a large amount of drug paraphernalia in their home on 209 Rochester Avenue.

They were charged with drug trafficking within 1,000 yards of a schools and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Billy Thomas was being held on a $15,000 surety bond, but was released from the Bell County Detention Center on Friday. Theresa Thomas was also released on Friday.

The arrests were the result of a drug trafficking investigation conducted by MPD Det. Joe Holder. Assisting in the investigation and execution of the warrant were Police Chief Jeff Sharpe, Lieutenants David Buis and Tom Busic, and Officers Kevin Goodin, Josh Burchett, Joey Brigmon, Barry Cowan, and Clay Hurd.

An arrest is an accusation only. All individuals arrested are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
