JONESVILLE, Va. — A man came before the Lee County Board of Education last week and called for the resignation of the Thomas Walker High School girls varsity basketball coach.

William Moles said it was not a personal attack but he merely meant to show the problems of the situation and suggest a remedy.

“Unfortunately the current state of the Thomas Walker girls varsity basketball program can only be described as being in a constant state of regression and disarray since the current individual’s appointment as the varsity coach,” said Moles. “This condition, I believe, has had an adverse affect on the players, the school, and the community they represent.”

Moles that the TWHS girls had only won 8 out of 48 games in the past two seasons.

He said that while winning wasn’t everything, “a consistent record of losses is often the result of a more systemic problem.”

Moles asked the school board for the “immediate removal” of the coach and that the replacement restore the “pride and competitive spirit” of the team.

After Moles spoke, another man in the audience said he agreed with what Moles had said.

The board did not make a response to the request.

The board also approved new early retirement incentives.

After some discussion, the board decided to continue this week going a longer day in order to make up for days missed due to snow.
