The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) recently released the name of the victim, Pamela Combs, 28, of New Tazewell, Tenn.
Officers responded to the accident shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, in the 5700 block of North Broadway St.
Authorities believe that the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling north on Broadway when it left the road and struck a utility pole in the median.
The truck then flipped onto its top and landed in the southbound lanes of Broadway — ejecting Combs from the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Combs was transported to Mercy Medical Center St. Mary's in Knoxville and pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the man driving the truck, Rusty Allen Parks, 27, of Ewing, Virginia, was not injured.
A blood sample from Parks was taken and will now be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) lab for analysis. Police claim that blood analysis is standard operating procedure for drivers in fatal crashes.
