JONESVILLE, Va. — After a recent Lee County Board of Education (BOE) meeting, the board decided not to renew the contracts for all recently hired teachers.

The Lee BOE went into a lengthy executive session to discuss different matters. According to Superintendent Fred Marion, the decision was made afterwards.

“After executive session, the board did not renew the contracts of all first and second year non-tenured teachers,” said Marion.

Marion said the board also voted to implement the Reduction in Force (RIF) policy.

A request to Marion for further elaboration on why the board made the cuts was not answered.

These non-renewals come on the heels of severe budget cuts in the state of Virginia.
