The Lee County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday and voted to rehire some of the non-tenured teachers that the board had decided to let go at the previous meeting.
“Six of the non-tenured teachers that were non-renewed last month were reinstated for 2010 - 2011,” Superintendent Fred Marion told the Daily News.
Another hire was made for the Lee High School football team. After going into executive session, the board hired Andrew Palco, Jr., who is from Churchill,Tenn., as head football coach for the Lee High Generals for 2010-11.
Marion said that the previous football coach’s contract was not renewed for the upcoming season and the board advertised for a new coach. Coaches are hired on an annual contract basis and receive a supplement.
Marion said that the board voted to reduce the supplement by 10 percent.
Secondary Schools Director gave the board an update on the school system’s health insurance plans.
“Based on eight months experience we’ve had to date with (Anthem) Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and their recommendations and projections..., (they’ve) recommended we keep the existing healthcare plan we have.”
Griffith said the school system would have the same coverage with the same rates; therefore no increase in premiums.
The board went into executive (closed) session at the end of the meeting.
The board also approved the following:
•The Lee Career and Technical Local Plan 2010-11
•Janitorial Supplies Renewal
•Wright Pest Elimination contract renewal
•2010-11 Health Insurance
•Property and Casualty Insurance Renewal
