The Middlesboro Little League tournament will go to an extra day as number two seed Sonic defeated top seed Overbay’s 6-2 Tuesday to set up a championship re-match this evening.

After neither team scored over the first two innings, Sonic broke through in the top of the third. Tyler McCullough drew a one-out walk and then Trenton Stephney lined a shot down the first base line. It got through for an error and rolled all the way to fence as McCullough and Stephney both came around to score.

Daniel Webb followed with a home run to make it 3-0.

Overbay’s got on the board in the fourth. Jacob Mike walked and Van Ball singled, but Mike was thrown out going for third. Ball moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on Scott Overbay’s ground out.

Sonic put up two more runs in the fifth as Stephney walked and scored on a base hit by Webb. Webb later scored as Trenton Collett reached on an error.

Overbay’s got their other run in the fifth as Joe Nagle walked and later scored when Logan Capps beat out an infield single with two outs.

McCullough scored the final run on an error in the sixth inning.

Webb was the winning pitcher as he allowed just two runs on two hits over 4-2/3 with 8 strikeouts and three walks.

The championship game has been moved up from Thursday to tonight and will start at 7 p.m.
