PINEVILLE — Pineville’s Assistant Fire Chief Tim Evans received an $850 check from the Lion’s Club on Wednesday to help fund the Department’s Fire Prevention program.

Students at Pineville Elementary School learn the basics of fire safety through the program and Evans stresses the importance of trusting firemen, even if they are wearing a scary uniform.

“We tell them not to be afraid of us, to come to us, that we’re there to save them,” said Evans.

The money will go to fund novelty items for the children, like plastic fire hats, in an effort to encourage a positive view of firefighters.

Ron Presnell, President of the Lion’s Club was pleased to grant the donation, saying, “If it saves one life, its more than worth it.”
