KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-It's disgusting, full of slime, blood and vomit, but it's one of the best reasons to visit Knoxville Zoo this summer. Yes, Animal Grossology is still making waves at the zoo, and it's one of the many great reasons why a trip to the zoo is the perfect cure for a lazy summer's day.
Animal Grossology is based on a series of best-selling books by Sylvia Branzei. The popular special exhibit features several areas such as Blood Slurpers, Slime Makers, Dookie Lovers and Vomit Munchers. Grossology gives visitors a fun and educational look at the repulsive part of nature at work through games and other interactive exhibits. Animal Grossology is located in the air-conditioned Pilot Traveling Exhibit Center until Sept. 5. Grossology admission is $2 for ages 3 and up with paid zoo admission. Admission is free for Knoxville Zoo members.
Another exciting reason to visit the zoo is Kids Cove. This new place to play is aimed specifically at thrilling those 12 and under. The area features an exhibit with pigs, a model cow kids can milk, a beaver exhibit where visitors can get a first-hand look at how beavers build their dams and the very popular contact yard where kids can pet and brush farm animals.
Kids Cove also includes a custom-built animal carousel, playground with a giant sandbox, more animals, water play area, a concession stand and gift shop. It is a place where kids can observe and interact with animals that live in East Tennessee, and role-play as farmers and zookeepers by dressing up in play clothes.
