Arjay man gets double sentence for robbery conspiracy

PINEVILLE - An Arjay man will serve sentences totaling 10 years in prison for conspiring to commit a robbery during which two women were injured.

On Jan. 3, Bell County Circuit Court Judge James Bowling sentenced Jimmy Wayne Smith, 21, of Arjay, to two consecutive sentences of five years in prison each after accepting Smith's Dec. 4 guilty plea to two counts of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.

The charges were amended from the Sept. 6 indictment, in which Smith originally was charged with more serious felony charges of two counts of complicity to commit robbery in the first degree in connection with May 20 incidents in which he was accused of assisting a juvenile, H.L., in using physical force to injure and rob Elizabeth Mikesell and Deborah Collett of Pineville.

Smith was one of nine defendants sentenced on Jan. 3, including:
