Most gardeners are reluctant to even try to grow celery because of its really bad reputation as a garden vegetable. This reputation is well earned as its demands for cool weather, moist soil, excessive feeding and inordinate growing time tests the mettle of even the best growers.

Celery seed is extremely small and can harbor a fungus that will cause blight in both the beginning and end of the growing cycle. Since this growing cycle is so long, nearly 4 months, a grower is on pins and needles as to whether or not a crop will even be realized.
