PINEVILLE — Lynn Camp scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to come from behind for a 23-14 win over the Mountain Lions Friday night.
Pineville looked strong early as they opened the game with an eight-play, 57-yard drive. Jamie Roan was 3-of-3 passing for 28 yards and had a big 11-yard first down run as the up man on a fake punt. Andrew Douglas capped it with a 10-yard run for a 6-0 lead.
The Lions defense made a goal-line stand at the end of the half and carried that 6-0 advantage into the locker room.
Pineville opened up the third quarter just as well, forcing a three-and-out then marching 67-yard on five plays. Douglas had three carries for 24 yards, Roan had a long run on a keeper play and then hit Kyle Capps for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Tanner Mike ran in the conversion and it was 14-0 with 7:11 to play in the third quarter.
Lynn Camp got on the board late in the period as Aaron Mills hit Matt Trosper in the end zone from eight yards out and Andrew Mills added the extra point. That play capped a 12-play, 60-yard drive that was helped along by a pair of questionable pass interference calls against the Lions.
Mills helped keep the chains moving for the Wildcats all night with several scrambling plays. Throurh three quarters, Lynn Camp was unable to turn their drives into many points, but they did run 47 plays to Pineville’s 29 and that could have contributed to their strong fourth quarter.
After Jesse Patterson and Douglas teamed up to stop Wildcat punter Ryan Donley just short of the first down on a fake, the Lions had a chance to put the game away. Pineville took over at the Lynn Camp 36 and a roughing the passer penalty gave them a first down at the 21.
But Tyler Reynolds was able to deflect and then intercept a Roan pass down around the 10 with under ten minutes left to keep the Wildcat hopes alive.
They went down the field for a go-ahead score and then took advantage of another turnover to put the game away.
“The bottom line is we lost the football game,” said Lion coach Bart Elam. “I should have done a better job of coaching. The kids played real hard, we just didn’t do enough as coaches to put them position to win. It’s a tough one to take, it will be hard to bounce back but we’re going to try.”
Pineville (1-3) is off next week, they’ll host Paintsville on Sept. 21. Lynn Camp (2-2) hosts Harlan next Friday.
