Staff Report

Veterans Day honors all the soldiers that have fought to protect our country for centuries. Jackie M. Howard retired from the Army over 45 years ago as a lieutenant colonel. He fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Recently, Howard was awarded with a Letter of Appreciation from the President Kim-Dae-jung of the Republic of Korea for all his hard work and dedication in the Korean War.

In the letter, the president thanks him for the noble contribution to the efforts to safeguard the Republic of Korea and uphold liberal democracy around the world.

The letter stated, “We Koreans hold dear in our hearts the conviction, courage and spirit of sacrifice shown to us by such selfless friends as you, who enabled us to remain a free democratic nation.”

Howard and his wife said they feel as if this letter relates to every veteran in the country for risking their lives to fight for democracy.
