GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Lady Railsplitters struggled to find their rhythm offensively on Wednesday as they suffered a 66-47 loss to the Tusculum Pioneers in their South Atlantic Conference opener. Lincoln Memorial drops to 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play with the loss, while the Pioneers improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC with the victory.

Despite limiting Tusculum to only 40-percent shooting in the contest, the Lady Railsplitters were stymied on the offensive side of the basket to the tone of a 29.2-percent clip. LMU was forced into committing 22 turnovers in the game.

The starting unit for the Lady Railsplitters provided nearly all of the offensive output with that group tallying 41 of the team’s 47 points. Mariah Richardson led LMU with 10 points on 4-8 shooting in the contest. Kelsey Bradford added nine points while dishing out two assists and notching a pair of steals.

Edina Musa finished with eight points, with five of her scores coming from the charity stripe. MaRanda Boddie and Ralissa Nelson added seven points apiece, while Boddie paired that figure with a team-leading 10 boards for the Lady Railsplitters.

The only other scoring for LMU came on four points from Elliotte Roberts and a two-point effort from Haley Nelson in her debut for Lincoln Memorial.

The Pioneers were paced by a trio of double-digit scorers, led by a 14-point performance by Alishia Mosley. Nequoiah Anderson added 11 points and Blakeley Burleson 10 off the bench.

April McCann helped lead Tusculum to a 42-41 advantage on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with eight points. Jama Hammontree also added eight points and Kendal Baxter turned in nine points on 3-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Lady Railsplitters established an early 5-0 advantage behind a three-pointer from Bradford and a jumper from Richardson, however, the Pioneers quickly assumed command of the game with 12-5 run behind a pair of threes from Baxter. That spark gave Tusculum a 12-10 lead that they slowly extended throughout the remainder of the half, closing with a 15-point advantage.

The Pioneers kept the Lady Railsplitters at bay in the second stanza, outscoring LMU 33-29 over the final 20 minutes en route to a 66-47 victory.

Lincoln Memorial plays at Newberry Sunday, the SAC contest between the Lady Railsplitters and Wolves tips at 2 p.m.
