LOG MOUNTAIN — The Bell County Lady Cats were back to their hot-shooting ways Monday as they rolled to an 84-45 win over North Laurel to improve to 6-0 on the young season.
Eleven different Lady Cats scored in the rout, led by sophomore Maci Morris with 18 points. Jess Sanders added 12, Paige Robbins nine and Katrina Johnson eight. The balanced scoring continued throughout the roster as Sarah Collins and Kaitlyn Taylor finished with seven points each, while Morgan Garnett, Jamie Boatright and Caleigh Collett all scored six points. Bethany Miracle chipped in with three and Alex Brock added two.
North Laurel (1-6) was led by Kendall Ellington’s 11 points. Ashley Wyatt and Hannah Lawson scored seven points each for the Lady Jags.
Bell took control early on as Johnson scored all eight of her points in the first quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pointers. Sanders also hit a three and scored seven in the period, Morris added six, Robbins four and Garnett another 3-pointer as the Lady Cats built a 28-11 lead.
Wyatt scored all seven of her points in the first quarter for North Laurel, while Ellington put in the other four Lady Jag points.
Lawson scored five points in the second quarter for North, Brooke Carpenter hit a 3 and Ashley Raines added a basket, but it was more of the same as Bell County continued to pull away.
The Lady Cats got five points each from Sanders and Morris while Boatright scored four off the bench and Garnett knocked down a 3 and by halftime the Bell lead was 50-21.
Morris scored her final seven points in the third quarter and the Bell bench took care of things the rest of the way. Collins, Boatright, Collett and Miracle all made baskets in the period and the lead grew to 70-33.
Hannah Gray scored all six of her points in the third quarter for North Laurel and Ellington put in seven of her 11 in the fourth. But the Lady Cats continued to pull away for the 39-point win.
Bell County travels to Wayne County Saturday while North Laurel will visit Pineville today.
