Three upcoming road projects totaling $3.9 million have been approved for Bell County.

Hinkle Contracting won a $1.2 million project to improve a 1.2-mile section of KY1534 North. Work will consist of moving existing centerline and guard railing. The completion date is Aug. 31.

“This project was held up somewhat because the state could not find some of the property owners, but I am looking forward to work starting on this project,” said state Rep. Rick Nelson.

Kay and Kay Construction has been awarded two projects. Eight-tenths of a mile of 2133 (the White Mountain Road) will be paved from KY 66 to the start of county maintenance at a cost of $54,000.

Kay and Kay will also do a major project on Fonde Mountain, KY 74. Drainage will be improved and culverts replaced as well as the shoring up of six sites that have been sliding. This project will cost $2.7 million.

“I am hoping the work on Fonde Mountain will allow blacktop to stay in better shape longer,” Nelson said.
