Bell County is set to host Middlesboro tonight in a 52nd District double-header.

The action starts at 6 p.m. with the Lady Cats (18-4, 4-1) taking on the Lady Jackets (3-16, 0-5). On paper it looks like a mismatch, but Middlesboro’s young team has been playing some of their best basketball of the season in recent weeks and is coming off a tough one-point overtime loss at Harlan County.

With a win, Bell County can keep pace with those Lady Black Bears and force a tie for the top seed in the district tournament.

The boys game will follow at around 7:30 p.m. and will also be pivotal as far as district seeding goes. The Bobcats (9-12, 4-1) are also in position to claim a share of the top seed in the district with a win while Middlesboro (12-9, 1-4) can secure the third seed with a victory.

Bell hit nine of ten 3-point attempts in their 97-76 win at MHS back on Jan. 4. The Jackets upset the Bobcats in the first round of last years district tournament and it’s almost always an exciting game when these two get together.
