LOG MOUNTAIN — Using a familiar script, the Bell County Lady Cats turned in a dominating third quarter defensive performance on Tuesday. They outscored Pineville 23-5 in the period and cruised to a 68-50 win.

It was Bell’s tenth win in their last eleven games, but it may have been a costly one. Standout sophomore guard Maci Morris left the game with a knee injury in the second quarter and didn’t return. Lady Cat coach David Teague said after the game that she would be going to see a doctor to get the knee checked out.

“She could be right back out there for our next game or she could be out for the season,” he said.

Morris, arguably already the best player in the 13th Region, scored ten points before the injury. Freshman Katrina Johnson came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points, all in the second half. Senior forward Paige Robbins added 14 points while guards Morgan Garnett and Jess Sanders added ten and nine, respectively.

The Lady Lions were led by junior forward Devin Enix with a game-high 17 points while Stacey Washington added 15. Erica Gambrell and Rachel Barnes finished with six each.

Morris scored seven of her points in the first quarter and Sanders added five as the Lady Cats built a 16-9 advantage.

Washington led Pineville with four first-period points. Enix got going in the second as she hit a pair of 3-pointers on her way to eight points while Washington and Emily Mullins added single free throws.

Morris hit a 3 before getting hurt and Robbins scored five of her points in the quarter as Bell took a 27-19 lead into the half.

Pineville was held to just a Washington basket in the third quarter. She, Mullins and Barnes also hit free throws. Meanwhile Johnson knocked down two 3-pointers and put in eight points in the period. Kelli Smith and Garnett scored five points each and Sanders added four as the Lady Cats surged to a 50-24 lead after three.

Teauge subbed heavily in the fourth quarter as all 14 players saw time in the game, but the Lady Lions never quit and outscored Bell 26-18 in the final period.

Washington and Enix had seven points each in the fourth while Barnes added five points, Gambrell four and Tiffany Sutton hit a 3 off the bench.

Johnson scored seven of her points in the fourth period while Robbins and Kaitlyn Taylor added four apiece and the Lady Cats went on to the 18-point win.

Both teams are back in action this evening with Pineville (14-10) visiting McCreary Central at 7:30 p.m. Bell County (20-4) hosts Cumberland Gap, Tenn., in the second game of a boys/girls double-header starting at around 8 p.m. It’s homecoming at BCHS and the Bobcats will play the Panthers in the early game at 6 p.m.
