Pineville Elementary School students have been busy as of late. Elementary principal Cynthia Smith addressed the Pineville School Board on Monday to explain some of the activities the students have been up to.

Students at the school have been active in creating clubs. According to Smith, two clubs have been established recently.

The first of those clubs was the animal research club. The club meets once a week, but presents on a daily basis. Students talk about different animals during the meetings.

Another club that has become popular is the newspaper club. Smith stated a four page paper came out Friday and she was impressed with the content. She stated students work really hard on the writing portion of the paper.

Smith also said interest in after-school tutoring has increased as of late. She stated the third grade math teacher is working with up to 18 students on Tuesday and Thursday. Smith said students have actually been asking the teacher to come to tutoring.

Smith stated students have been working hard on collecting box tops to help raise money. She stated the custodian has been leading the effort in getting students to collect the box tops.

Currently, the students have raised $2,100 in box tops. The money will help go toward helping the school by computers on wheels.

Other business taken care of during the meeting included:

* Approval of 2013-14 tentative calendar;

* Approval of KDE Evaluation and Support System;

* Approval of the Pineville Men’s Recreational League;

* Approval of fundraiser requests;

* Approval of accounts due and payable.
