A man involved in a wreck that severely injured one victim pleaded guilty on Monday.
Christopher David Lawson, 38 of Middlesboro, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.
Commonwealth Attorney Karen Greene Blondell recommended a sentence of 10 years in the penitentiary.
Nearly a year and a half ago, Lawson was involved in an wreck along U.S. 25E in front of Pineville Community Hospital. The white minivan that Lawson was driving crossed into the southbound lane and collided head on with a vehicle operated by Bobby Baker.
Baker was flown to the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville from the scene of the accident. Lawson was transported to the Pineville Emergency Room and later flown out to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Baker died several months later.
Lawson also pleaded guilty to the charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Blondell recommended 30 days in the Bell County Jail for the charge.
Lawson’s final sentencing date will be at 9 a.m. on April 15.
