PINEVILLE — Pineville High School humanities students recently competed in a newspaper sculpture contest in preparation for a trip to the Morehead State University High School Arts Day in mid-March.

Pineville students researched techniques to create freestanding sculptures made only from newspaper and masking tape. The winning selection, voted on by PHS faculty and staff, was an Eiffel Tower replica created by Hannah Engle, Whitney Billing, Breanna Lawson and Sarah Gilbert.

According to Dawn Proffitt, humanities teacher, students learned about re-purposing materials and about structure and design while working on the project.

The winning group will participate in an on-site newspaper sculpture competition during the Morehead day trip.
