HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers evened their record at 2-2 on the season with a 10-0, five-inning win over Campbell County on Friday.
Senior Danielle Caldwell struck out nine while allowing just two hits and a walk over five shut-out innings to get the win. She also led Cumberland Gap with three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. McKayla Hamilton singled three times, scored twice and drove in two while McKenzie Miracle and Gena Lake also singled and doubled in the game.
The Lady Panthers took the lead in to the bottom of the first as Miracle led off the game with a double to left and stole third. One out later, Kaitlin McCarty walked and Lindsey Elliott then brought Miracle home with an RBI ground out.
In the third inning, Caldwell singled and stole second. McCarty walked and then with runners at the corners, Caldwell scored on the back end of a double-steal to make it 2-0.
Cumberland Gap added two more runs in the fourth. Hamilton singled with one out and stole second and third. She scored on a base hit by Miracle. Caldwell singled and stolen bases put the runners on second and third. McKarty followed with an RBI ground out to drive home Miracle for a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Panthers put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. With one out Jordan Thacker reached on an error and then scored on a double by Gena Lake. Julia Satterfield singled to put runners on the corners and stole second. Hamilton drove in two with a base hit to right-center and it was 7-0.
With two down, Caldwell doubled to left to bring in Hamilton. She scored on McKarty’s single to right and Elliott brought an end to the game with a walk-off RBI double deep into the gap in right-center.
Cumberland Gap (2-2) had their game at Claiborne rained out on Monday. They’re scheduled to visit Grainger today. Campbell County (0-4) hosts Anderson County today.
