Gwendell “Black Beard” Helton, 60 of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born Jan. 14, 1952, at Red Bird, and was the son of the late Robert and Jessie Helton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Albert and Robert Helton;two sisters: Pauline Gambrel and Bonnie Jean Whitehead.

Survivors include: his son: Travis Helton of California; daughter: Ramona Helton of Tazewell, Tenn.; brothers: Freeman Helton of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Arnold Helton of Stoney Fork; sisters: Christine Money of Williamsburg, Lorene Hoskins of Stoney Fork and Jewell Dean Shackleford of Middlesboro; grandchild: Blake Elliott; special nieces and nephews: Beth Mattingly, Brian Howard, Anita and Johnny Bolton; and a host of Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Sanctuary with the Rev. David Partin presiding.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Sanctuary.
