James E. ‘Whiskers” Phillips, age 63, Cumberland Gap, Tenn. passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012 at his home after illness with his family surrounding him. He was born May 6, 1949 in New River, Tenn., the son of the late Jimmy and Margaret Phillips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael James Phillips and two nephews, Kevin Russell and Michael Paul. He was a life long UMWA miner.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Phillips; daughter, Michelle and Joe; son, J. J. and Cheryl; brothers, Kenny, Doug and Mary Ann, Alan, and Steve and Marcella; sisters, Ann and Lee, Pat, Gail and Ralph, Kathy and Eric, Lisa, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at his home.
