Lady Cats hand OBI 18-3 defeat

The Bell County softball team wasted little time finding their rhythm on Thursday when they hosted Oneida Baptist Institute. The Lady Cats tallied five runs in the first en route to an 18-3 win over the Lady Mountaineers.

The victory evens Bell County’s record at 4-4 with all but one win coming by at least 10 runs. For OBI, they fall to 1-6 on the season with their only victory coming against Cordia.

The Lady Cats tallied nine hits on the day with all but a couple players finishing with two or more runs. Amber Lawson and Sarah Brooks paced Bell County at the plate both finishing with two hits, three runs and one walk.

Raegan Robbins tallied three runs on one hit and two walks. Mackenzie Shackleford scored three runs on two walks and one hit-by-pitch. Kayleigh Saylor, Makaya Baker and MaKenzie Griffin each scored two runs as well.

For the Lady Mountaineers, it was Aisha Biyo and Tess Parkhouse that led the way. Biyo went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs. Parkhouse scored one run on one walk and one hit-by-pitch.

Bell County took advantage of some walks in the first inning with four resulting in runs for the Lady Cats. Lawson’s double also resulted in a run giving the Lady Cats a 5-0 lead after one.

OBI cut into the lead in the second. Biyo scored to kick off the inning cutting the lead to 5-1. Parkhouse scored on a throwing error to narrow the deficit to 5-2.

Bell County responded with four more runs in the bottom half of the second. After Robbins struck out to start the inning, Lawson and Brooks reached on singles. Both would score to increase the lead to 7-2. Shackleford and Griffin also scored before the inning ended to give the Lady Cats a 9-2 lead.

Bell County outscored OBI 9-1 in what would be the final two innings of the game walking away with the 15-run victory.

Bell County (4-4) will host McCreary Central (3-3) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

OBI (1-6) will host Barbourville (2-6) on Monday.
