Williamsburg, Middlesboro advance to All ‘A’ finals

Defending champ Williamsburg made it back to the All “A” Classic regional finals with a 52-43 win over Harlan on Thursday at Red Bird.

The Lady Jackets’ return to the finals was no surprise, but their opponent in the championship game was not what most expected. Middlesboro rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to rally for a 51-50 win over Pineville. The Lady Lions had advanced to the semifinals by upsetting Lynn Camp.

Junior guard Lillie Hall scored 20 points to lead the Lady Jackets. Madison Chapman added 11 points.

Payeton Charles, a senior guard, poured in 27 points for the Lady Dragons. Natalee King added 14.

Brittany Davis led a balanced Middlesboro attack with 15 points. Baylee Woody added 12, with Kailey Owens and Kirsten Keith contributing 10 each.

Sophomore guard Whitney Caldwell exploded for 42 points to lead Pineville

The championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Friday. The winner advances to state competition in Richmond.
