Lady Cats snap losing streak on Senior Day

After having lost their last three games, the Bell County Lady Cats etched another “W” in the win column on Friday as they took down the Williamsburg Lady Jackets 15-0 in three innings on Senior Day.

Prior to Friday’s game, three Lady Cats were recognized for their years of softball at Bell County. Sarah Brooks, Maleah Douglas and Mackenzie Griffin were all recognized before the game.

“It’s been quite a year,” said Bell County coach Alex Barnett. “We have had some ups and downs, but I am very proud of our senior girls — not just because of what they’ve done on the field, but what they’ve done in the classroom as well. It’s been a humbling first year of coaching for me, and I’m thankful to the girls. We will miss the seniors and everything they do for us very much. We wish them nothing but the absolute best in everything they do.”

The Lady Cats dominated the game on both sides of the ball from start to finish. They stayed hot on the bats all afternoon, while simultaneously holding the Lady Jackets scoreless throughout the game.

Mackenzie Miller was dominant from the circle on Friday as she pitched a complete game. She allowed only two hits throughout the game, with no runs, no walks and seven strikeouts.

While holding the Lady Jackets to just two hits all day, the Lady Cats were able to rack up nine hits on the afternoon, scoring 15 total runs.

Makenzie Napier led the Lady Cats with two hits and three RBI, including a home run. Makenzie Griffin had two hits and one RBI. Jordan Muncy added one hit with one RBI. Baylee Allen added one hit and one RBI.

Sarah Brooks aided the Lady Cat effort with one RBI on one hit. Amber Lawson had two RBI on one hit. Mary-Kate Smith added an RBI on one hit. Kayleigh Saylor added an RBI.

With the victory, the Lady Cats improved to 10-10 on the season ahead of their opening round match-up with the Harlan County Lady Bears on Monday in the 52nd District tournament in Harlan County.

With the loss, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets moved to 0-23 on the season as they prepare for their match-up with the Whitley County Lady Colonels on Wednesday.
